Dr. Harrell has more than twelve years of experience working with children, adults, and families who present with a variety of psychological challenges. She specializes in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and has extensive experience working with Trichotillomania and other anxiety Disorders, including Phobias, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and Panic Disorder.
Dr. Harrell works from a Cognitive-Behavioral orientation, focusing on changing maladaptive thoughts and behaviors that maintain anxiety symptoms. Her approach is both solution-focused and goal-oriented, giving clients measurable means to assess their progress. Treatment tends to be shorter-term than with more traditional psychotherapies but is always determined by the needs of each individual client.
Dr. Harrell earned both her doctoral and master's degrees in
Clinical Psychology from Western Michigan University. She is a fully
licensed psychologist in the state of Michigan, and she completed
her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at Wayne State University.
Currently,
Dr. Harrell is on the Medical Advisory Board of the OCD Foundation of
Michigan and a member of the National OCD Foundation. Her articles on
OCD and other anxiety disorders have appeared in the Mental Illness
Research Association and the OCD Foundation of Michigan newsletters.
In addition, she regularly gives educational presentations about
anxiety disorders to groups such as teachers and hospital personnel.
